GHXST (pronounce GHOST) is a dark artrock trio from New York City formed in 2010 by Christopher James and Shelley X after disbanding their previous gothic noise band. Drummer Nathan Gray left school in San Diego a few months later to join the new lineup, adding powerful live percussion to the band’s stylish and chaotic sound.
The group cites musical influences including the Velvet Underground, 90s grunge, and the Knife while also finding inspiration in cult fashion and film.
Their debut EP, ‘Evil’s Wasted On You’, came from a collective nostalgia for an alternative spirit. Disappointed by soft and overhyped indie bands, C. James and Shelley X wanted to write songs that once again felt dangerous and passionate. Self-produced in Brooklyn, the five songs feature aggressive noise riffs, dark synths, and violent existentialist lyrics.
In early 2011, GHXST released a follow-up EP, ‘No Rest For The Wicked’. Mixed by James Aparicio (Mute Records, DiscError Records), the six songs feature a more bluesy, fuzzed-out sound. Inspired by southern gothicism and the cinematic west, the EP explores themes of resistance, rebellion, and death.
Evil Wicked Desire compiles both EPs and will be also released on 12" vinyl, CD and digital (with bonus tracks).

The album was recorded by legendary underground producer John Hannon at a studio in a farm in Essex.
Dense in its variety, shifting through urgent riffs, nightmarish, hollowed out 60s pop and looped narrative, the songs are deeply personal in their biographical fortitude.

Rayographs have carved out their own distinctive sound which taps into a dark shimmering psychedelia: blue like petrol, kaleidoscopic with flecks of colour throughout. The songs have an odd timeless quality that yearn for absent cinematic visuals. Swooping, atmospheric vocals, stream-of-consciousness vignettes encased in 60s garage hooks.
Rayographs are Astrud Steehouder (guitar/ vocals), Jessamine Tierney (bass/ vocals) and Amy Hurst (drums/ occasional vocals). The band was born one ultra hot summer in Amy’s bedroom, amidst the bare bones of a handful of blues-inflected songs written on an acoustic guitar. As the sound developed, and the interweaving melodic bass lines, spatial thundering drums and waves of dark surf guitar were added, the songs have managed to retain a simplicity and subtlety that evokes a pure confidence in the strength of the songwriting, and in turn creates a space to be inhabited by a brooding, potent imagination.
November 2008 saw the release of their sold-out debut 'Hidden Doors'; a limited-edition hand-printed 7" single that was made single of the week by Organ, Normans Records and Piccadilly Records, with excellent reviews from Artrocker and The Stool Pigeon, who described it as "a simmering blues tattoo enunciated like a hex and sharing not a little in common with Nick Cave's 'Tupelo'", while US site Stereogum heralded them as a band to watch, likening them to “Grace Slick working with The Breeders”.
They released their second, highly acclaimed, limited edition 7" ‘Francis’ in July 2009, which was once again made record of the week by Piccadilly Records, appeared as a featured release on US iTunes and editors’ playlists, including Rockfeedback, Stereogum and Rolling Stone. The record was frequently compared to the Pixies and early PJ Harvey, cementing their reputation as one of London's most promising bands, merging incisive observational narratives with pummeling garage riffs.
In between Rayographs travelled to Paris and other faraway lands, playing a host of mesmeric live shows including Offset Festival, as well as contributing to the odd independent film score.

A heady and eclectic mix of sonic, visual, and literary influences contribute to the Rayographs’ sound, notably The Pixies, David Lynch, 60s Psychedelia, Can, Angelo Badalamenti, Patti Smith, Francesca Woodman, Shellac, Nick Cave, Derek Jarman, Raymond Carver and Eugene O’Neill. This melting pot of ideas has resulted in a sound rich in imagination with a blues tinge, that has become galvanised in studios and on stage, quietly and carefully honing their craft to produce a body of work that is uniquely their own.
Their name comes from Man Ray’s eponymous method of surrealist photography where an item is placed directly onto the paper without the use of a negative, often involving strange juxtapositions of objects. The images created are at once ethereal, stark and beautiful - qualities which could easily be ascribed to the Rayographs' songs.
There is something unusual and very special about Rayographs, as if they are searching for something precious in their music to be unearthed in the process of creating it; as one reviewer puts it “occasionally, all this listening and reviewing will uncover a gem and here’s one undisputed diamond”.

Soft Metals is the electronic romance of Ian Hicks and Patricia Hall of Portland, Oregon, USA, played on vintage synthesizers and drum machines. Brought together in April of 2009 through a common love of 70s and 80s electronic music, they decided to meet up and put Ian’s synth collection to use. Inspiration came to them by way of early industrial music (Cabaret Voltaire, Chris & Cosey, Severed Heads), EBM, minimal synth, 1980s Chicago house, techno, synth pop and italo disco. They are signed on über-cool Brooklyn based label Captured Tracks and are working on their debut album. For this split single with fellow Portlanders Jewels Of The Nile, Soft Metals delivers a great cover version of Throbbing Gristle 'Hot On The Heels Of Love' and pushes the song onto the dancefloor.

Jewels of the Nile are a female duo out of Portland, Oregon, with an obvious influence from the dark Northwest. Formed early in 2010 by Meghan Christine and Jessy Montaigne while playing in their other project Magick Daggers, the two bonded over a common love of more primal, downtempo electronic music, also sharing double air in the stars, combining to create a spark of desire to form something that allowed the freedom of complete exploration in music and the world. The two are joined by Mark Ingram, of Crossover on electric drums and floor tom, which gives their sound deeper percussive roots. They are currently writing their debut album. For the B side of this single they cover Deathwish by gothic legend Christian Death to create a witch house monster.

Far from the well-known peaceful local indie style, Der Ventilator brings some noise in Spain! Hailing from Barcelona the quartet is the second band to secure a release on the newly launched desire singles club after Loom 11.
White EP contains 4 tracks mixing wall of noise guitars, distorted vocals with metronomic beats. Produced by James Aparicio (Liars, Ipso Facto, These New Puritans, Mogwai, Demontré...) those 4 songs are released as a limited edition and sexy white vinyl double 7’’. 300 copies only and also available in our shop as mail order hand-numbered limited to 50 copies only with download coupon.
Der Ventilator started at the end of 2007 as a duo by the hands of Adex I.C. and Berta Pfirsich. The band then produced a well received (Mondosonoro, Sinammon, MUUMA and Korova) demo tape in 2008. Since, the band played a lot of local gigs and drew the attention of Vice Magazine among others.
Earlier this year they released their first record for the NYC based label Sibling Sex Records.
Forthcoming releases on the desire singles club include US Blessure Grave's new band Soft Kill and UK Televised Crimewave.

Crimes, Creeps & Thrills will be out spring 2011 on ThisisfakeDIY Records in the UK and Desire Records throughout the rest of Europe and was recorded at Snug Studios in our hometown of Derby, with additional sessions in Leeds with Whiskas (iForwardRussia!) and Paul Draper (Mansun)

dsr011 is a split 7" single between two great Portland bands, Soft Metals and Jewels Of The Nile. They are both covering classic tracks from the early 80s. Soft Metals is doing Hot on On The Heels Of Love of Throbbing Gristle while Jewels Of The Nile covered Deathwish of the infamous Christian Death. The artwork will soon be delivered and the single will be ready to pre-order in a few days.

Electro-infused gothic new-wave industrial-drone. The Present Moment came out of just that. A moment in time where change was influx and it was a chance to venture into new territories musically. Scott Milton, The Present Moment main man, wanted to start giving birth to the musical ideas inside his head out of the band construct. An ever evolving page where he could start this idea and watch it grows out of intention and into a real living musical organism. For now he choose to create and let the process unfold on its own.

THE TIME IS NOW, THE PRESENT MOMENT.

In the heat of LA under his black hood, Scott Milton, member of bands Catalog and Moodorgan, made a mixture of electro pop music sprinkled with dark glow under the name of The Present Moment.

With influences ranging from the electro-glam sound of bands like Visage, Human League, Heaven 17 to the more industrial beats of Nine Inch Nails, COIL, Ministry and Throbbing Gristle with a haze of gothic rock (early Adam & The Ants, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Alien Sex Fiend), The Present Moment is releasing The High Road, his first full length album. Originally released on the US hype label Disaro as a limited edition CDr, The High Road is now out on desire. This very first pressing is out on limited edition CDr, very limited edition real-to-real cassette and unlimited digital downloads.

The High Road contains 10 tracks penned and produced by Scott Milton with the help of his longtime friend Phillip Muench (The Rorschach Garden, Synpscape) on the title track and The Damage Is Loved. It also includes two great covers: Candy-O, originally written by Ric Ocasek for The Cars and Season Of The Witch written by the English psychedelic troubadour Donovan.

Led Er Est hailing from Brooklyn are one of the leaders of the new cold wave and minimal synth scene, signed to scene leaders Wierd Records and recently released their ‘Dust On Common’ album which could have quite happily been released on Mute in 1979 alongside Fad Gadget and The Normal. Cheap drum machines and synths hammer away relentlessly forming a post-industrial soundscape for sombre yet emotive vocals.

Ancien Régime hailing from Rome, moving closer to the spirit of the 80s new wave, the band's sound incorporates influences from '80s dark wave music and modern indie-alternative rock. For the 12'' Split the 4 tracks were produced by Alessandro Adriani with a full analog synths and drum machines setup at Mannequin studio.

The journey into nostalgia is deep and barren. There is no reason in nostalgia, it is not forgiving, and it detriments the weaker minded peons of taste and life. The single 'Artifacts' investigates nostalgia by narrating a story of love lost through a musical aesthetic that the creator, Elon Katz, is too young to have experienced in any genuine cultural capacity. The artist's indecision of nostalgia, be it personal or cultural, is played out with intentionally derivative electro-EBM and industrial motifs peppering in the melodic feeling of a depressing new wave track. LOOM 11 is an exercise into the depths of psyche and nostalgia in which the Chicago based industrial funk duo White Car subverts their identity into a more ardent and abrasive form. The restraint so carefully conducted in the mainstay of White Car is banished from LOOM 11. Instead, 'Artifacts' charges forward at relentless pace creating a new future for the not too distant past, saturating old memories into new entities.

Legendary No Wave band release new material

Back in 1981-83 New York Based Ike Yard were amongst the leading acts within the booming post punk/ no wave scene. After an explosive, yet shortlived career, with an album released on legendary Mancunian Factory Records, the band called it quits in 1983.

The history of Ike Yard is like a cross section of what was happening in the post punk/ no wave scene anno 1982. Ike Yard has performed with New order at Ukranian National Home, with Section 25 at the Peppermint Lounge, at Maxwell’s with Suicide & 13:13 (Lydia Lunch).

After Ike Yard split in 1983, former member Stuart Argabright went to West Berlin where he worked with members of Malaria, DAF & Liaisons Dangereuses.

Now 26 years later the three original members have regrouped and recorded new material to be released as Nord on desire.

Musically Ike Yard picks up where they left. Still strongly influenced by the early post punk/ no wave scene that they once were an important part of, side by side with fellow acts such as Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle and Suicide, Ike Yard does manage to show a somehow lighter, more melodic side to their sound. And production wise the sound of Ike Yard anno 2010 is definitively richer, more detailed and – perhaps even - accessible.

Nord contains tracks recorded in producer Paul Geluso’s studio in New York, and draws inspiration from band members extensive travelling in Europe and mainly Japan.

LOOM 11 is the new child of Elon Katz of White Car, the industrial space funk outfit from Chicago. Elon Katz, who writes, records and produces the music for White Car, started LOOM 11 to release his darker and harder tracks. The music utilizes classic heavy hitting EBM rhythms and early digital synthesis and is oppressive and even scary sometimes.

Artifacts is the first LOOM 11 release and is also the first release from the desire singles club, that brings you, month after month, exclusive limited singles from the most uncompromising bands of the planet.
